3 Tips and Tricks to Help With College Recruiting

Overview
Navigating the NCAA D1 college recruiting process can be overwhelming, but with the right approach, high school students can prepare themselves to be successful in the future. Some key tips to help with the recruiting process are to create a strong athletic resume and highlight video, be proactive throughout the process, and start early and be organized. To make this process smoother, Top Tier Lessons is offering a mentorship program to connect athletes in the recruiting process with current college athletes.
Create a Strong Athletic Resume and Highlight Video
One tip to help with the college recruiting process is to create a well put together and edited highlight video that is around 3-5 minutes showcasing your best plays, technical skills, and athleticism. Also make sure to include relevant stats, academic information, and contact information in a clear one page resume to send to coaches.
Be Proactive
Another thing to help with the recruiting process is being proactive when communicating with coaches. Don’t wait to be discovered, but be proactive in the recruiting process. Start by researching schools that you are interested in and reaching out to coaches with personalized emails. While communicating with schools make sure that you show genuine interest, reference the team’s performance or style, and include your resume and a video of your performance. Make sure that you respond to all communications promptly and professionally.
Start Early and Stay Organized
The last is to start the process early and to stay organized. It’s best to start the recruiting process early in your freshman or sophomore year of high school. But athletes should be preparing and training even earlier than this. Along with starting the process early it is also important to make sure that during this process you stay organized. This includes keeping track of communications with coaches, the camps attended, and key dates in the recruiting process. To help with staying organized athletes can create a spreadsheet or use a recruiting app to manage all the information.
