Overview

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner and while this holiday is fun and has a lot of green associated with it, it is not always easy to find activities that are both kid friendly and fun. In today’s blog post we will be looking at 3 fun activities you can do with your kids to celebrate the holiday. These activities are both fun and use supplies that you already have at home. So try these 3 activities that are perfect for the occasion: making a Leprechaun trap, green slime, and Lucky Charm Rice Krispie Treats.

Make Leprechaun Traps

One fun way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with kids is to create a Leprechaun trap to help them catch a Leprechaun. Making a Leprechaun Trap is relatively easy and can be made with simple supplies that you already have around the house.

Supplies

  • Colorful popsicle sticks
  • Glue bottle or hot glue gun
  • Sticks and other fun decorations

How to make

To make the Leprechaun Trap create a square with the popsicle sticks and then glue them together at the corners. Then stack more popsicle sticks on top of the original four popsicle sticks, making sure that the direction of the popsicle sticks is alternating after each row. Continue to do this until you get to your desired height. Then create a top for the trap by making a square with popsicle sticks and then filling in the square with more popsicle sticks. Decorate the outside of the trap with sticks, glitter, glitter glue, or other fun decorations. Then to “Set” the trap prop the lid open with a popsicle stick.

Make Green Slime

Another fun activity to do with your kids is to make green slime. The process to make slime is a fun and easy craft to do with kids and can be done with simple household items. So here are the supplies and the instructions to make green St Patrick’s Day themed slime.

  • 4 oz bottle of Elmer’s white glue
  • 2-3 tbsp multi purpose contact lenses solution, add more as needed
  • 1-2 cups unscented shaving cream
  • Green food coloring
  • Glitter, small charms, or other fun little trinkets (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Add glue to the large bowl and then add the green food color until you get the color that you want.
  1. Add the contact lenses solution to the bowl and mix the mixture until it is combined.
  1. Stir in 1 cup of shaving cream, for thicker slime add in more shaving cream, and more shaving cream a 1/2 cup at a time until you get to your desired thickness.
  1. Stir the mixture together until you can no longer stir, the mixture will still be sticky at this point, and then kneed the slime with your hands. Continue to kneed it until the slime is no longer sticky and is the desired consistency. If the slime is too sticky add in an additional tablespoon and continue to kneed it.
  1. (Optional) Add in the charms or glitter at the end to make the slime more St. Patrick’s Day themed!
